2 + 2 = 5 is about important things happening together that don't seem to connect. For example, unhappy+lucky, naive+wise, disunity+community, broken+whole, doubt+faith, hate+love, conflict+peace, etc.

I'm well educated, at least in a traditional sense (Oberlin, Yale). Glad for that but I cannot abide intellectuality not integrated into daily life. I'm drawn to Nietzsche's "ideas are blood. Otherwise, I don't pay attention" -- that is, thought and belief is visceral, from the gut — deepened, I hope, by Hannah Arendt’s “enlarged mentality.”

I'm a pastor, fundraiser, community organizer, former politician; Anglo; divorced, married; addict, recovering; cisgender, straight; third culture (US citizen, raised in Venezuela); conservative liberal; ambivert.

I hope you will be a subscriber. If there are matters you wish I would address or address further, please let me know by replying to any of my Substack entries. I'll respond as soon as I can. Your interest or concern will not be lost.
